BOSSES at Hawick Royal Albert say they won't rush into finding a new manager following the shock resignation of Dean Shanks on Monday.

Shanks guided the Albert to the third round of the Scottish Cup and has enjoyed reasonable success in their first season in the Lowland League.

But following Saturday's 7-1 defeat Dalbeattie Star he announced he would be stepping down.

Assistant manager Dean Robertson has also resigned.

Shanks wasn't at the Dalbeattie defeat as his wife is due to give birth to their twins.

And imminent fatherhood is the reason behind his decision.

Dean told the Border Telegraph: "We just feel that we've taken the club as far as we can and as I'm about to become a dad it seemed like the right time.

"I have loved every minute of being at Hawick and we have created some great memories over the last couple of seasons.

"I have a different challenge coming with the twins and I'll concentrate on being a dad for a few months before consider my next movve in football."

The 30-year-old is aiming to complete his UEFA A Licence during the summer.

And admits he will be open to offers ahead of next season.

Dean added: "If the opportunity is right then we will get involved again but it will have to be right.

"Both Dean (Robertson) and I will be supporting Hawick for the rest of the season and hope they do well.

"There are some great people down at Albert Park and I will get down from time to time to catch up."

Coach Scott McKenzie and senior player Chris Hughes are expected to be in the dugout for Saturday's league clash with Civil Service Strollers as well as next Wednesday's Qualifying Cup semi-final with Lothian Thistle.

Despite the sudden departure of the management team, officials at Albert Park are taking their time in finding a replacement.

Albert secretary Dougie Purves told us: “Dean’s resignation has come as a shock as he has done a fantastic job in turning around our fortunes.

“We will meet with the players to discuss the rest of the season and beyond.

“There has already been some interest in the manager’s post but we will take our time and find the right candidate to continue taking the club forward.”

Applications for the vacant post are being invited by officials at Albert Park ahead of a closing date on February 28.

Interest and applications should be made to Mr Purves on dpurves4@aol.com or 07862295028.
