CARNETHY'S Andrew Fallas ran himself into contention for the Borders Cross Country Series with a fine win at Paxton House on Sunday.

The former winner of the Feel the Burns Race kicked clear of the field in the fifth round of this winter's series to win with a time of 22.22.

Julian Barrable of Corstorphine crossed the line 30 seconds later for second with Portobello's David Limmer finishing strongly for third.

Teenager Rory Anderson led home the local charge in fifth with his Teviotdale Harrier team-mate Greg Walker finishing 14th.

Tim Darlow was first Gala Harrier home in 16th, just ahead of Innerleit6hen's Dean Whiteford for the Lauderdale Limpers club.

Jill Stephen was first woman home for Hunter Bog Trotters in a time of 26.25.

Gala Harrier Kirstin Maxwell was just seven seconds adrift in second with Megan Wright of HBT a further 30 seconds back in third.

A total of 220 seniors completed the four miles course around the historic Berwickshire estate.

The improving Yousuf Khursheed won the sprint for the line in the junior race to beat East Lothian's Fraser Kelly by just two seconds.

Fraser Clyne from Teviotdale Harriers was a further 13 seconds further back in third.

East Lothian's Esme Callander took the girls race just ahead of Eilidh Forbes of Gala Harriers and Lasswade's Lauren Meikle.

A total of 90 juniors completed the shorter course.

The sixth round of the 2016/17 series takes place at Peebles on Sunday, January 29.

And the concluding leg, followed by presentations, will be held at Dunbar on February 19.
