MORE than 250 athletes braved Sunday's freeze to compete in the third round of this winter's Borders Cross Country Series at Berwick.

Tom Martyn from Hunter Bog Trotters broke the tape in the seniors race at Spittal Point, more than a minute in front of runner-up Marcus D'Agrosa from Gala Harriers.

Rory Anderson from Teviotdale Harriers finished strongly for third place.

Hunter Bog Trotters enjoyed a one-two-three in the women's race with Georgia Tindley, beating training partners Claire Gordon and Megan Wright to the finishing line.

A total of 169 athletes completed the five miles course.

East Lothian dominated the juniors race with Fraser Kelly taking the tape ahead of Joe Donnelly and Eric Gallagher.

Fraser Gorvett from TLJT and Gala Harrier Lewis Tharme were the first locals home in fifth and sixth, respectively.

Edinburgh's Emma Johnson made it three wins in a row as she held off the challenge of her younger sister, Katie, to win the girls' race.

Esme Callender from East Lothian took the bronze medal.

A total of 87 juniors completed the shorter route.

The fourth round of this year's series takes place this Sunday at Chirnside.
