THE Borders District under 15s netball squad had a busy day in Glasgow at the weekend in the second of their three match days during which they play 13 other south of Scotland squads all aiming to earn a place in the top few to go into the finals against the best of the north later in the season.

And Borders certainly looked like a squad with its eyes set on finals day with five wins from five matches showing their strength and fitness.

The squad was severely challenged with only eight of the players able to take part, their captain not permitted to play by Netball Scotland, due to her commitments to the Scotland national U21 squad and their vice-captain sustaining an ankle injury in a mid-week game.

Adversity appeared to spur on the youngsters, five of whom are still only 13 years old, who pulled out sparkling performances repeatedly, putting huge pressure on their opponents and taking the upper hand with formidable team work in both attack and defence.

The final match day is in January when Borders will play Ayrshire, Inverclyde, East Renfrewshire B and Edinburgh B.

Borders has already secured wins over South Lanarkshire A and Glasgow B, but lost to Renfrewshire A and Glasgow A, both in close run affairs.

Borders U15s: Molly Falconer (GD) and Ellie O’Hara (WA) (acting joint captains), Abbie Sorrell (GA), Hannah Little (GS), Kerry Minto (GS), Emily Wilson (C), Ruby Finn (WD), Emma Latto (GK).

Missing: Emma Raeburn (national squad player) and Emma Saxon (injured)
