EAST Kilbride came from behind to storm into the second round of the Scottish Cup with a 9-1 victory over Vale of Leithen.

Steven Lynch had given the visitors an early lead at the K Park Stadium.

But a Joao Victoria hat-trick as well as strikes from Fabio Capuano and Robbie Winter gave Martin Lauchlin’s side a commanding 5-1 lead at the break.

A further Winter strike along with an Adam Strachan double and a Declan Hughes goal gave last season’s giant killers an easy victory.

Lauchlin said: “We responded well to going a goal down.

“Our finishing was excellent today and it is good to be in the hat for the second round.”

A furious Garry O’Connor watched his Selkirk crash to a 3-0 defeat against Linlithgow Rose after going down to 10-men.

Mark Samson’s red card and the subsequent Tommy Coyne penalty at the start of the second half angered the home manager.

He said: “We were the better team up to that point.

“The foul was outside the box and there was no way it should ever have been a red card.”

Coyne added a second before Kevin Kelbie settled the tie with a late third for the East Super League side.

An early John Hall strike was enough to take Whitehill Welfare through at Peffermill against Edinburgh University.

Preston Athletic returned from Nairn with a 3-2 victory.

Kenny Park, Daniel O’Rourke and Scott Barclay were all on target for the visitors.

Gretna also progressed from their clash in the Highlands after seeing off Deveronvale 3-0.

Adam Telfer, Rob McCartney and David Reynard all scored at Princess Royal Park.

A late Bryan Hay own-goal gifted Gala Fairydean Rovers a place in the second round at Netherdale.

Gary Harris had fired Fraserburgh in front before Stuart Noble popped up with a double.

A Dan Fitzpatrick double was enough for Shelley Kerr’s Stirling University to overcome Clachnacuddin.

And BSC Glasgow also enjoyed success over Highland opposition, beating Rothes 3-1.

Aiden Ferris, Shaun Bowers and Tom Woods all netted for Broomhill.
