AN EDUCATIONAL fund in memory of a West Linton resident is open for 2024 applications from Friday, March 1.

Last year, The Betty Aikman Educational Fund, administered by the village's community council, gave cash towards a laptop and for a modern apprentice’s clothing.

The awards are aimed at this year’s high school leavers who are going on to university college or into apprenticeships ad can be used for books, materials and equipment.

When Miss Aikman passed away her will stated that she would like to leave £5,000 to help young village people and a constitution was set up.

A WLCC spokesperson said: “Due to the economic climate it was found there was not a great deal of interest to be distributed from the fund.

“So Miss Leach advised of her intention to add another £5,000 after her death, in memory of Betty.

“This she did to make the fund £10,000.

“We are very grateful to these two ladies for their generosity.”
