A MAN who admitted driving dangerously on the A7 between Stow and Galashiels has been banned from the road for 15 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.

Daryl Bevis, 32, repeatedly swerved across the carriageway at excessive speed and then struck another vehicle before colliding with a wall.

Prosecutor India McLean said the police had received calls about the manner of Bevis’ driving as he had been on the wrong side of the road.

After crashing into the wall he appeared stunned according to members of the public who went to help and did not know what was going on.

His lawyer told the court that tests for alcohol and drugs had proved negative. He explained his client had taken the car for a drive to “clear his head”.

Bevis, of Bilston, near Loanhead, also pleaded guilty to possession of a class C drug, namely Diazepam.

He was ordered to carry out 80 hours unpaid work and banned from driving for 15 months for the motoring offences and another 50 hours for the drugs offence.
