A MAJOR road near Galashiels will be reduced to single-lane traffic across a four-week period, according to officials.

Safety barriers along the southbound verge of the A7, two miles south of the town between The Hawthorns cottages and Boleside Road footpath, will be upgraded by BEAR Scotland.

The works will see temporary traffic lights in place over four weeks, starting on Monday, February 26.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s south east network manager, said: “It’s necessary for safety to close one lane of the A7 at Boleside while we carry out these improvements.

“Temporary traffic lights will be in place, however we don’t expect this to cause significant delays. We’re grateful to road users and local communities for their patience and understanding.”
