SHOPPERS at Tesco in Galashiels were treated to a feast of wonderful Christmas songs as they navigated the packed aisles today.

And that was courtesy of the Borders Hospital Radio Service whose volunteers were raising much needed funds with a bucket collection at the foot of the escalator.

The service has been broadcasting from the Borders General Hospital since October 1988.

Their purpose is to provide a radio service to patients, visitors and staff within the hospital and help contribute to a more positive atmosphere.

There has been a lot of research carried out which suggests music can ease stress, lift your mood – and even aid in the recovery of patients.

Whilst the volunteers don’t claim to rival modern medicine, they do aim to make the duration of a patient’s stay in hospital as enjoyable as it can be by lifting spirits through music.

So if you are out and about in Galashiels today pop into Tesco and get rid of your loose change while enjoying some festive tunes.

They will be there until 5pm.
