THE Borders Autumn Junior Tennis Leagues reached a thrilling conclusion at Melrose Tennis Club on Saturday September 23.

Melrose held this year's event which saw a large crowd gathered to watch and support the 24 eventual players who won through for the opportunity to play for the Keith Polson Trophy and division shields respectively.

This year, the division one final was contested between two time defending champions Earlston and the only team to remain unbeaten this season so far, Innerleithen.

The closely fought tie was the only final to go the distance to a match shoot-out after both teams were locked at 1-1.

Eventually, it was Innerleithen who held their nerve to secure the trophy for the first time in their history.

In division two, St Boswells second team edged out a young but very impressive Lennel side after a couple of tight tie-break wins to claim the second division shield. Whilst in division three, it was an all Earlston affair as their third and fourth teams went head-to-head in a friendly but very competitive contest.
