BUSINESSES in the Borders are being encouraged to join a new Scottish Borders Council (SBC) scheme.

The Trusted Trader Scheme, which was recently launched, aims to promote good local businesses and help reduce doorstep crimes.

The SBC initiative is also supported by Police Scotland.

Councillor Julie Pirone, executive member for communities and culture, said: “This is such a valuable initiative and I’m delighted that we have been able to get involved in its introduction to the Scottish Borders.

“The scheme benefits both traders and customers, providing increased consumer confidence, increasing brand recognition and trust, improving customer engagement and increasing custom.

“I would urge all local businesses to consider becoming a member of the Scottish Borders Trusted Trader Scheme.”

The scheme is open to businesses with a clean trading history of at least six months.

In addition, the first 25 new applicants to the scheme will receive a 50 per cent discount on the cost of joining, meaning they pay £120 rather than the full annual rate of £240.

For traders who do not meet vetting requirements a fully refundable fee will be redeemable.
