GIRLS in the Borders are invited to try their hand at tennis as part of a Prime Video sponsored programme.

Tennis coaches Lesley Thomas and Kate Bull of L&K Tennis have run girls tennis sessions in the past, however the pair have now been chosen as two of the 270 coaches around the UK to join the Calling All Girls programme from Prime Video and the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association).

The sessions will be run in Wilton Park, Hawick, and at Kelso Orchard Tennis Club, and will be open to girls aged four to 16.

L&K Tennis said: "The sessions are open to girls new (or lapsed) to tennis and the fantastic offer includes a racket, balls, wristbands and t-shirt, a six-week block of coaching and a follow on offer.

"This girls only beginner tennis course is packed with games and activities that will help build skills on court, as well as new friendships and confidence in everyday life.

"We want to make tennis more fun, social and engaging for girls, inspiring them to get on court with friends and family – enjoying the many benefits our sport has to offer."

On Mondays and Tuesdays the sessions will be held in Kelso, and in Hawick on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

The coaches added: "The programme focuses on creating an environment that motivates young girls to play and stay in tennis.

"LTA research identified that girls want to play with friends in a fun and pressure-free setting, with relatable coaches who can build confidence and drive enjoyment.

"The initiative fulfils Prime Video’s promise to reinvest the funds from sharing the broadcast of the 2021 US Open Final with Channel 4, into British women’s tennis."

The Calling All Girls sessions will launch on Monday, April 17.
