HIGH winds associated with Storm Arwen could hit the Borders today (November 26).

The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for the region yesterday.

The alert covers the period from 3pm today until 9am on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the forecasters said: "Storm Arwen will bring high northerly winds southwards across Scotland during Friday afternoon and evening, the highest winds then becoming confined to northeast England early Saturday.

"Gusts of 65 to 75 mph are expected in coastal areas with gusts in excess of 75 mph in a few places."

Flying debris is likely and could lead to "injuries or danger to life", according to the spokesperson.

Some travel disruption and damage is also expected.

The Met Office issued another alert covering the Borders for Saturday. The yellow wind warning is in place from 12pm-6pm, according to the forecasters.

"Winds will start to slowly ease over Scotland and then northern England during the course of the day," the spokesperson said.
