A BORDERS church is “delighted” to welcome its new pastor, with more than 100 people gathering for his Service of Induction.

During the service on Saturday, October 23 at Galashiels Baptist Church, Reverend Euan Johnstone was ordained as a Baptist minister.

Galashiels Baptist Church is the first church Rev. Johnstone will be minister of since completing his studies.

Church chairperson Valerie Gelder said: “We are delighted that Euan has accepted the call to Galashiels Baptist Church and are confident his youthful enthusiasm will help guide the church and benefit the local community.”

Euan completed a degree in Theology at St Andrews University before working with Christian charity Young Life International in Perth.

Joined by his wife Beth, Rev. Johnstone – who is a keen hillwalker – will be the church’s first minister since 2019. Rev. Johnstone said: “We are so grateful for the warm welcome we have received from Galashiels Baptist Church.

“I look forward to getting to know the church more in the exciting weeks ahead as we seek to share God’s love with those around us. And I can’t wait to get out and about meeting folks in Gala!”

Services at the Victoria Street church have resumed and take place every Sunday at 10.30am. Services can also be joined by Zoom.

Midweek activities such as a lunch club for the elderly, a parents, carers and toddlers group, a crafts club and youth club have also recommenced.
