RANGERS B visit Netherdale on Saturday looking to maintain their excellent start to the season.

Last weekend they closed the gap at the top of the table to a single point of Lowland League leaders Bonnyrigg Rose with a 5-2 away victory over the Midlothian side.

Goals from Tony Weston, Cole McKinnon, Charlie McCann, Robbie Ure and Kane Richie-Hosler sealed a comfortable victory which makes it nine wins in ten games.

In midweek however the youngsters were beaten 3-0 at the Dumbarton Football Stadium in what was the toughest test of this experimental season so far however they will be reinstated to the SPFL Trust Trophy after Championship Ayr United fielded two ineligible players.

A large crowd is expected for the game with Gala Fairydean Rovers also in good form having beaten The Spartans in Edinburgh last weekend and demolishing Tweedmouth Rangers 10-0 the previous week.

This will be Gala’s first home game against either of the Glasgow giants since the pair were granted entry into the league.

Rovers previously lost 2-0 to Celtic at the Penny Cars Stadium in Airdrie but were unfortunate not to take anything from that game Afterwards Celtic boss Tommy McIntyre praised their efforts, telling the club website: “Gala Fairydean are a really good side, they’re fit, well-organised and they played in the right manner, getting some good balls into the box.”

Gala boss Neil Hastings admits that Saturday’s game will be a ‘huge challenge’ for his team but believes that they pick up the points if they play to their capabilities.

He told the Border Telegraph: “It’s a huge challenge for us. I’ve watched Rangers a couple of times and for me they are the best team I’ve seen in this league so I am under no illusions about the task but if we perform as we can do there are no reasons that we can’t pick up the points.

“Our players are in high spirits after beating Spartans in the Scottish Cup but it’s my job to bring them down to earth. They know it will be a difficult 90-minutes and we have to prepare properly.

“I’m sure there will be a decent crowd and with the size of the club a lot of people will be keen to see their exciting young players. It’s something I relish. Games are much better when there is an atmosphere and I’m hoping we can send the local fans home happy.”
