A CARE home assistant who crashed into another car at an accident blackspot on the A72 has had her driving licence revoked.

Rudi Johnson pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving at Dirtpot Corner between Cardona and Innerleithen on August 10.

The 21-year-old from High Street, Innerleithen admitted driving at excessive speed for the conditions, entering the opposite carriageway and colliding with another vehicle.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said: "It was around 6.30pm on an evening in August when it was daylight.

"The accused was heading eastwards towards Innerleithen at Dirtpot Corner.

"A driver was coming in the opposite direction and realised the accused was going too fast.

"In fact the driver stopped but there was not anything he could do as the accused came round the bend, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the car.

"Both vehicles were damaged.

"An ambulance was called but no one was injured."

Defence lawyer Heather Stewart told Selkirk Sheriff Court her client had only passed her test in October 2014 and already had three points on her licence.

She said her client realised her licence was going to be revoked under the new driver ruling of six penalty points.

Ms Stewart said: "Her licence will be revoked and she will be required to resit her driving test.

"The car was written off as a result of the accident.

"It is a notorious piece of road, an accident blackspot."

Sheriff Peter Paterson described the offence at the "upper end of careless driving".

He placed seven points on her driving licence meaning it will be revoked as well as imposing a £300 fine.
