THE decision to bring the Great Tapestry of Scotland to Galashiels has been welcomed by Councillor Graham Garvie.
At last Monday’s Innerleithen Community Council meeting, the Tweeddale East councillor said that the decision was “good news for Gala”.
He added: “I’m pleased to hear that the Great Tapestry of Scotland is coming to Galashiels, it is a reconstruction of our industrial heritage and great news for the Borders.”
The meeting also noted that the decision had been welcomed by VisitScotland who identified a gap in the tourist market for half-day trips from Edinburgh.
It is believed there is an opportunity to market a ‘Train to the Tapestry’ package as part of Galashiels’ regeneration.
