A PEEBLESSHIRE woman is serving up a charity fundraiser after losing two people close to her heart.

Emma Cummings, 23, from Innerleithen, is hosting an afternoon tea in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care and the Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH).

Emma told the Peeblesshire News: “The event is in memory of my dear nan Jeanette Cummings who passed away in September 2014 and my best friend Lauren Bremner who passed away in December last year.

“My nan was the bravest and strongest person I knew, and Lauren was the best friend you could ever ask for and would do anything to see you smile.

“The nurses at Macmillan really helped my nan for her last few months, weeks and days, and I wanted to give something back.

“I also was keen to do something for SAMH as they were there for Lauren when she needed them.”

The fundraiser takes place from midday on Sunday, December 11, at Peebles Rugby Club and Emma is hoping as many people as possible will come along and show their support.

The event includes a bake stall, Christmas stall and raffle, with more features planned.

Businesses from across the area have also donated to the fundraiser, with the likes of Bookers, Tesco, Forsyths, Semi Chem and the Co-op joining in to show their support.

Emma added: “Many people have mental health problems and aren’t supported enough. SAMH is a great charity which helps people in many different ways for so little money.

“I’ve set up a fundraising page for people who wanted to donate and also for people who can’t make it to the event.

“I’d like to thank the businesses in the area, who have been brilliant with donations for the raffle. Our fundraising goal is to hit the £1,000 mark.

“Following this, the money we raise from the event will be split equally between these two amazing charities and will help the people that need it.”

This is the second fundraiser for Macmillan organised by Emma, but the first to be held for the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

“I’m hosting this event not just for the money but for the awareness and to help along these two amazing charities to help make a difference in other people’s lives.”
