ANOTHER major fireworks party will be staged in Galashiels next month.

And there will also be a giant bonfire, musical acts and even a few glow sticks.

Thousands turned out last year for the inaugural Heriot Watt University Student Union celebrations on November 5.

And a whopping £5,500 was raised for local charities.

The students are back again this year and they hope as many as 5,000 will be drawn to Netherdale for the Gala Fawkes pyrotechnic party.

Student Union vice president Corto Pimenta told the Border Telegraph: "Following the huge success of Gala Fawkes in 2015, we are back with an even bigger and better bonfire night for families around the Scottish Borders.

"In anticipation of up to 5000 people coming, we have moved the event to Gala Rugby Club at Netherdale where there is more space and parking. "This venue allows us to include live music and other entertainment, a marquee for the stalls and students’ work as well as glow merchandise, and food and drink.

"We are also organising an after-party at the Warehouse Nightclub.”

Funds raised from this year's Gala Fawkes event, which will take place on Saturday, November 5, will go towards Radio Borders Cash for Kids and Heriot Watt Student Union.

Gates open at 5pm with a donation price of £3 for adults and free entry for children.
