A GALASHIELS day care centre has received a £200 cash boost to help improve the services they offer.
Staff at Oakview Day Care Centre in Livingstone Place, who help to give a bit of respite to those who would normally be isolated in their home due to age or disability, were recently given the cheque from the Galashiels Local Relief Fund.
Visitors to the facility could rarely go anywhere as there was very little funds available, but the money now means the centre can put on more to engage users of the centre.
Tracey Alder Secretary for Galashiels Community Council said: "I was told about this by Liz Jardine who's Husband Jock attends the Centre and so I mentioned this issue to Councillor Bill White.
"Cllr White said he would see what he could do to help and fortunately the Galashiels Local Relief Fund came through with some help."
And Oakview bosses also say the funds will allow the members who attend the to go out and about on day trips, something which was more difficult to do before.
Irene Riley, Day Centre Supervisor for Oakview, who is pictured receiving a cheque from Cllr White, told the Border Telegraph: " This will help a great deal to pay for transport to get the members out to different places and I can't thank everyone enough."
