WHAT rhymes with Rio?

Live Borders hope budding young poets from across the region will enlighten them - and maybe win their very own gold medal.

To celebrate all elements of Olympic values and, of course, British success at Rio 2016, Live Borders has launched an Olympic themed creative writing competition.

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Live Borders, said: “The Olympics and Paralympics are not all about sport. Culture and education is a big part of the ethos too and we are inviting young Borderers to celebrate all these elements with us by using the written word.

“We have already had some evocative entries and are looking forward to reading more.”

Entrants have a chance to win their very own Road to Rio gold medal, book tokens and have their work published in The Eildon Tree magazine.

You must be aged between eight and 18 years with prizes for is primary and high school pupils in short story and poetry categories.

Entrants can use up to 500 words in a short story while a maximum of 20 lines can be used for a poem.

The deadline for entries is September 30.

Entries, with name, address, age, school, contact details, can be submitted to libadmin@liveborders1.org.uk by post to Live Borders Head Office, Melrose Road, Galashiels, TD1 2DU or handed into any local library/contact centre.
